Honor. Not a word that is very fashionable nowadays. We only think of it as used in movies and history books to describe heroes that fight for their honor or their country’s honor.
Not to many people would think of this word to describe themselves…why is that?
I want to address the ladies especially because of a very recent experience I had. It is very sad every time I see girls/women throwing their dignity to the dumps by the way they talk, act and dress. You can see it everyday, everywhere you turn. This is all that sin did to the wonderful creation that God put in the first woman in Eden. After He finished creating man and woman God said that “it was very good”. But it didn’t last long…
What makes me worry is that a lot of Christian girls/ women cannot make a difference between God’s way and the world’s way of being a woman and acting like one. If you are one of them and reading this you know very well what the Bible says about treasuring our body and our soul.
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30
When I log into Facebook I come across more and more girls that I know to be Christian who are careless of what photos they publish. Half naked, low necklines, short skirts showing shamelessly their bodies to whoever wants to watch them. You might say: it’s ok cause only my friends can see them! Exactly!! How are you a light leading to Jesus by doing that?
Me and Chris went personally through this. He recently told me that he struggles when he goes onto Facebook and that he finds it hard not to go and watch pictures of “girl friends” that upload pictures of themselves. He confessed it to me and we prayed about it. A few days ago he permanently deleted his account… I can’t really tell you how hard this situation was on me as we both had to see what this does to our relationship.
Now, most of the girls say: it’s his fault because he’s addicted, or he lusts. But let me remind you of this verse: “Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man (woman in this case) through whom they come!” (Matthew 18:7) If you put that picture, you start the chain. And you are not confessing God through this but making others to stumble and fall into sin – “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28).You are also ripping your dignity and your chance of a godly man to see you as pure and to treasure you for who you are. Keep hold of your honor!
So please, for the love of you brothers in Christ, girls revise your attitude and your heart. Who are you following? The world or the One who died for you?
Strive for this: 1 Timothy 2:9-10
“I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. “
